Phoney Mega Man Promotes Antibiotics

The image of Mega Man.EXE appears to have been the subject of some not-so-subtle tracing in an advertisement for Deflox, a Spanish cold and cough medication. The impostor in all his glory below:

Check out a comparison after the break...

According to the tipster, the product is known for copying video game characters, and using them for unauthorized advertising. Previous efforts include Link, Mario and Klonoa knock-offs. No images available, sadly.

Are they allowed to do this?

Its clearly the same picture just edited.

Those skilled in the "art" of plagiarism would have at least done...no actually, that's about what I'd expect.

As you can clearly see, Megaman is ticked off about his clone

Either that megaman clone looks to destory the original megaman exe figure, or he just looks like his gay side.

well, megaman.exe does battle viruses... and i'm guessing they use mario to advertise thier plumbing equipment, sonic to advertise thier shoes, and link to advertise thier kitchen knives?

Apparently, it's delicioso!

i thought it was similar but then i saw the comparison shot. They've got the exact same figure, thats a terrble copy.
Maybe they didn't think Megaman was a big thing and nobody would notice lol

@anon: Nope, we haven't covered this particular knock-off before. There's been a few others in the past:

*goes all emo* IT'S JUST AN EDITED EXE!!!

I wouldn't mind the rip offs so much if these people just knew how to draw XD; oh good grief.

Well a lot of people are asking if this is legal, well sadly it is. It's protected under the "Fair use" law. It allows you to parody anything and everything, you can't just copy it, but if you edit enough then you're in the clear :/

@Ngaurhoth1

But this is obviously not a parody, it's advertising.

@Khorosho

An advertisement using a parody.

Ngaurhoth1:
I get that, but when is someone going to stand up and say that it's wrong to parody so blatantly for profit? And without permission?

You wanna make a movie, an homage, something artistic or creative (for lack of a better term) to something and make money that way, fine, but to advertise and steal another's design like this is just BS.

ngaurhoth1 said...

Advertising using a parody... You can parody anything and get away with it... Advetisement is no exception... Have you seen the Chewy Baton?

What´s the problem? it isn´t the big deal.....it´s just pikachu-man being parodied by an "almost authentic" wannabe-man.

It's not too bad, but is it just me.... or does this clone have the same colour scheme as the infamous box-art from MM1?

I don't see how having a robot like character standing there would help make someone want to buy medication anyway.

Oh damn, that "ecobrigada" thing is from my country...what a shame boy, what a shame. I can't believe people around here are imitating megaman...embarrising =/

I KNOW I've seen this here. Or perhaps some other medication that was advertised with a knockoff. But I'm certain it wasn't either of those two.

Or I could be senile. Yea, that's probably it.
